FAQ
Q. What does "FAQ" mean?
A. Frequently Asked Questions.
Q. What is The Seed Network?
A. The Seed Network is a facilitating network encouraging people to become aware of and active on the issues of prostitution and people trafficking in the local community. The Seed is made up of individuals from a range of backgrounds living in Bournemouth and Poole who are passionate about challenging the idea that we are all commodities, that people shouldn't have a price and that we all deserve genuine love regardless of what we've done. We're not judging or trying and pass laws but to simply create community which communicates, community that actually cares and does not see the issues of prostitution and people trafficking as a disease or blight on society, but a symptom. We ultimately want to ask the questions that challenge the conditions that allow things like prostitution and people trafficking to emerge.
Q. How did The Seed Network start?
A. It started in mid to early 2008 when a few friends involved in the nightlife of Bournemouth got together in town. They started somehow talking about the things they had encountered in terms of prostitution and people trafficking. A few individuals in that group then realised that after hearing what had been said, that if they simply walked away and did nothing it would say something about all of them. It would be a lie to say the individuals involved did not struggle with apathy, it was only after they began to explore working with groups already doing work in Bournemouth and Poole that they realised that all of what’s going on has its roots in how we view other people and ourselves. That was how it started.
Q. So, are you guys a non-profit organization?
A. No, we're just a collection of rather ordinary people who want other people around them to think about how they can get a handle on these issues and think about them in their everyday life.
Q. Where does the name/title “The Seed Network” come from?
A. We believe that from small things some pretty interesting fruit can emerge, both good and bad. We're all about asking what sorts of seed are being sown into our lives and what sort of fruit do we want to see come out of that. We're learning to see the world and the people in it in a different way and that's not about 'doing something', but at the same time we shouldn't be ignorant of the fact that something can happen when we see our priorities and passions change.
Q. Do you think you can stop prostitution and people trafficking?
A. We can't control the hearts and minds of other people and don't want to, and if we did we wouldn't be going about it the way we're doing things now. In a nutshell it's not about the destination for us but how we're getting there. Do we think we can stop it? Only God knows, but ultimately we want to find ourselves in a community and a world where these things don't go on. That's our passion.
Q. What can I do to help, or how can I get involved?
A. Check out the section of the site called "Activism" and/or "The Wall" for ideas and inspiration on how to get involved and connect with people already doing work in Bournemouth or Poole. Alternatively if your really stuck just send an email to (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)!
Q. Will you guys come speak at my school/concert/function/church?
A. Possibly? If you’re interested in having us along send an email to (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) entitled "Booking".
Q. What organisations do you have links to?
A. Individuals within the Seed Network belong to a range of groups, but we're not officially linked or facilitated by anyone. We're independent and ultimately just a community of folks trying to come together over something we think is important and have some fun whilst doing that.
Q. What’s the music for the videos?
A. The music comes from a guy called Josh Garrells; he kindly allowed the use of his music for the project. The track itself is entitled 'Embarkation' off the album Jacaranda Tree. You can find more about him here! (http://joshgarrels.com/)
