Our Story
The Seed Network exists to empower people to become culture shapers in their local community. Back in 2008 a group of friends got together after hearing and being convinced about stories of prostitution and people trafficking, we asked ourselves why this didn't reach the news and why no one talked about these things. The more we thought about it the more we realised how big the issue was, the existence of prostitution and people trafficking asked questions of how we viewed, treated and measured ourselves and those around us.
We realised that a lot of things in our culture do a lot to effect the way we view our world, it's also argued, by some, that society has become increasingly sexualised and our consumerism has resulted in us viewing those around us as commodity's to be exploited either sexually, economically or psychologically. The question we were faced with then were about the alternatives. How do we shape our culture and our view of the world to repair what has happened, to celebrate our humanity and the humanity of those around us, and challenge the things in our lives that make other people (or even ourselves) seem like products.
Things like prostitution and people trafficking do not emerge without cause. There is a root to these things that originates in how we view ourselves in relation to other people, and whether we see other individuals as people in the same way as we see our self. These roots can sometimes go very deep into our view of the world and our culture, we wanted to pull these out and instead plant seeds which embody the alternative. We're a group of friends exploring and trying to raise awareness to the dehumanisation that can and does occur in our lives, and the very real conclusions of such behaviour in the existence of things like people trafficking and prostitution.
Our hope is to bring these things, which are seldom talked about, and yet in some ways so important to us as people, out of the darkness and into the light. It isn't about facts and statistics but our common nature, the good and the bad and an exploration into something redemptive and different to what currently prevails. We're not into ignorance, we're not about pretending the world is better than it is, but we can start with being honest with ourselves and with others. We believe that everyone is worth more than their time, their ability, their actions and their body and we want more people to recognise this.
That's the Seed Network. You in?
Mission Statement
The Seed Network is an online and offline network of individuals local to Bournemouth, Poole and elsewhere against the existence of people trafficking and prostitution. The Seed Network see's the existence of these things as a symptom rather than a disease, which in turn is the product of humanity's inhumanity. The Seed Network is a community then devoted to exploring what it means to be human. This is then translated in what The Seed Network defines as direct action against the existence of people trafficking and prostitution.
As an initiative The Seed Network seeks to be rooted in love, creativity, hope and acceptance, welcoming anyone seeking to become part of the community.
